(FORT WAYNE, IN) – The Allen County Public Library (ACPL) will join libraries across the country to celebrate National Library Card Sign-up Month in September.
The ACPL is using the opportunity to spread the word about the many valuable resources, services, and programs available to patrons beginning with more than 2.7 million print and electronic books, DVDs, CDs, board games, video games, and more available for checkout. They also have access to the Library’s meeting rooms and study rooms, library programs like storytimes and resume workshops, and the full digital library with everything from movie streaming services to professional development trainings.
This year, the Allen County Public Library is adding a special promotion in partnership with the Fort Wayne TinCaps that celebrates the community and our collective love of reading. Beginning today, Allen County residents can sign up for a limited-edition TinCaps-themed library card designed to honor Fort Wayne’s beloved baseball mascot, Johnny TinCap. The cards are available at all ACPL locations while supplies last.
Another opportunity to “score” one of the Johnny TinCap cards will be at the September 7 TinCaps home game where the ACPL will be the “Community Organization of the Game.” ACPL staff will be on site to help attendees sign up and receive their card at the game.
“We’re thrilled to celebrate National Library Card Sign-Up Month with this special TinCaps-themed card,” said Chris Ford, Marketing Manager for the ACPL. “This promotion not only highlights the importance of celebrating and strengthening libraries but also reiterates our connection with the community and our local sports culture. It’s a must-have for sports fans and library enthusiasts alike!”
Approximately 50% of Allen County residents are already ACPL cardholders, but the Library is dedicated to increasing that number over the next four years as part of its strategic plan “Allen County’s Window to Lifelong Learning and Discovery” which launched in early 2024.
As always, the ACPL library cards are free to Allen County residents and people teaching/attending school in Allen County. People who live outside of the county can also pay an annual fee and receive a subscription card.
“We believe the experience of using our library system is second to none and we are proud of the resources, staff, and services we provide to our patrons,” said Ford. “It all begins with a library card, and National Library Card Sign-Up Month is the perfect time to stop by, sign up, and start taking advantage of this incredible gem in our community. There is something for everyone!”
