Assistive Devices for Library at Home Patrons
Many readers in our communities contend with vision problems. That’s why we offer a number of devices to help those patrons continue their journey of lifelong learning and discovery, even when their vision is im-paired. These devices are all designed to make reading easier, and now you can check one out just like a book.
Contact your Library at Home team to have any available assistive device delivered directly to you! If you find a device that works for you, we have information on how you can purchase one for continued personal use.
Page Magnifier
When an extra boost is required, the page magnifier may be the way to go. Increasing the printed text size by up to 500 percent, designed with an anti-glare lens, and equipped with LED lights in three custom lighting modes to reduce eye strain, the page magnifier is still light enough for our patrons to hold as they read well into the day and night.
CD Player

When reading any print is no longer an option, many of our patrons turn to audiobooks. Even skeptical readers have found that they enjoy the experience of listening to a narrator read to them. If you or someone you know is unsure about audiobooks, you are in luck, because Library at Home can not only help you select from our collection of thousands of books on CD, we can also loan you a player… and show you how to use it! Available upon request.
Book Stand
Of course, readers face challenges besides, or in addition to vision issues. Some of our patrons have difficulty holding a book or turning a page. For others, maintaining good posture is vital for neck, shoulder, or back health. For those patrons, we offer a highly-adjustable book stand and holder that is comfortable and easy to use, either on your lap or on a tabletop. Try one today!

"When asked how I am finding Towne House living, I usually mention the connection between Towne House and the Allen County Public Library. ACPL loans the Towne House library several hundred books and changes 25-30 weekly. If I cannot find a particular book on the Towne House shelves, I can request a specific book from ACPL, that "magically" appears at my door by the next Monday."
- Richard
"ACPL provides many services to the Towne House Retirement Community. Our Book Club is especially grateful that they send multiple copies of our selected book each month, in both regular and large print, as well as a CD of the book when available. A a result, through our discussions and sharing, I have been introduced to new books and authors I might otherwise have overlooked."
- Virginia
"I have been a member of the Towne House Book Club for 10+ years. Why? Because the ACPL has worked hand in hand with our library, making it a super power of enjoyment and learning. The variety of reading material has led to a reading adventure I would not have tried."
- Mary
"If it wasn't for ACPL Library at Home Service, I would not have access to books. I call with my request for audio books on CD disks, they are delivered and picked up at my residence. I am grateful for this service."
- Shirley, Library at Home Patron
"What a wonderful service the ACPL provides for residents at the Towne House Retirement Center. New books to read and enjoy every week is so appreciated."
