As part of Family History Month, the Allen County Public Library’s (ACPL) Genealogy Center invites the community to take part in a one-of-a-kind local history experience: “The Lindenwood Tour: Haunted Forest,” held October 24–26 beginning at 6 p.m.

This free, in-person event brings Fort Wayne’s history to life through a partnership between Lindenwood Cemetery, Lindenwood Nature Preserve, the Allen County Public Library, and Northrop High School. The evening includes a walking tour of historic Lindenwood Cemetery, where guests will hear the captivating stories of some of the city’s notable past residents—individuals whose legacies still shape the community today.

From there, the adventure continues into the woods of Lindenwood Nature Preserve, where Northrop High School’s theatre students will transform the forest into a haunted realm of eerie sights and sounds. Small groups will journey through the darkened trails, encountering scare actors, ghostly figures, and atmospheric scenes that blur the line between performance and the supernatural—creating a spine-tingling experience that’s part haunted forest, part living history, and entirely Halloween fun.

“This event combines the best parts of Family History Month—storytelling, local heritage, and community connection—with a bit of autumn mystery,” said Allison DePrey Singleton, Genealogy Services Manager. “It’s a creative way to remind us that history isn’t just found in books or archives—it’s all around us, waiting to be rediscovered.”
