Young visitors to the Allen County Public Library (ACPL) will find even more to explore, imagine, and discover in StoryScape, as new toys have been added to refresh and enhance the popular early literacy play spaces. The updates replace well-loved and well-used toys, ensuring StoryScape continues to be a welcoming and engaging environment for children and families.

The new items were made possible by a generous $5000 donation from the Friends of the Allen County Public Library and are now available at the Main Library and the Pontiac, Woodburn, Grabill, and Little Turtle branches.

New additions include play cars, food and cooking sets, Magna-Tiles, play rugs, a color-changing light table, sensory blocks, and other hands-on materials designed to spark creativity, encourage problem-solving, and support early learning through play.

“StoryScape has become a favorite destination for families, and these new toys help us keep the experience fresh, safe, and inspiring,” said Youth Services Manager Jacki Fulwood. “We’re especially grateful to the Friends of the Library for supporting spaces where children can build a lifelong love of the library.”

StoryScape first opened at the Allen County Public Library in fall of 2022 and was designed to support early literacy development through interactive, open-ended play.

“The Friends of the Library is so excited to support the ACPL’s StoryScapes. Many children will use StoryScape to build essential reading readiness skills such as storytelling, collaboration, and sensory exploration,” said Friends Board President Mike Horton. “It is just one of the ways the Friends are using our funding and influence to benefit the families of Allen County.”

Families are invited to visit StoryScape at participating ACPL locations to enjoy the updated toys and experience the joy of learning through play. For more information about StoryScape and children’s programming at the Allen County Public Library, visit acpl.info/storyscape
