The Allen County Public Library (ACPL) invites the community to celebrate National Library Week (April 19–25, 2026) with this year’s theme: “Find Your Joy.” The annual celebration highlights the essential role libraries play in transforming lives and strengthening communities. This year’s theme—championed by honorary chair and “Reading Rainbow” host Mychal Threets—invites people of all ages to explore what brings them happiness at the library, from discovering a new book to connecting with others or learning something new.
At ACPL, there are countless ways to “find your joy” all week long including attending programs, meeting neighbors, relaxing in quiet spaces, or just stopping to tell a librarian they’re doing a great job. This year, the library is encouraging community members to visit the ACPL’s Instagram and Facebook pages to hear stories of library staff finding their joy at the ACPL. Followers are also invited to share their own love for the library. And of course, it is the perfect time to sign up for a free library card to access new books, movies, games, and streaming services.
“Joy looks different for everyone—and that’s exactly what makes the library so special,” said ACPL Executive Director Susan P. Baier. “Whether it’s a child hearing their favorite story, a job seeker building new skills, or someone finding a quiet place to recharge, the library is where those moments happen every day.”
The “Find Your Joy” theme reflects the many ways libraries enrich lives. For some, it’s getting lost in a great story; for others, it’s attending a program, accessing technology, or simply feeling welcomed and supported.
First celebrated in 1958, National Library Week continues to remind communities that libraries are more than buildings—they are vibrant hubs of learning, creativity, and connection. Join ACPL in celebrating National Library Week by visiting your local branch, attending a program, or simply discovering what brings you joy at the library.
