The Allen County Public Library (ACPL) is celebrating the 10th anniversary of WELT Community Radio (95.7 FM), a one-of-a-kind station that has spent the past decade informing, connecting, and amplifying voices across Fort Wayne and Allen County.

Launched in 2016, WELT is the only low-power FM radio station licensed to a public library. The station was created as an accessible platform for local music, culture, civic dialogue, and community storytelling and was given the name WELT—We Encourage Local Talent.

WELT’s programming is a mix of talk shows, music, news, sports, and more, most with a hyper-local focus. The station features the voices of neighbors from across Allen County—musicians, artists, advocates, organizers, and everyday residents—creating radio that reflects the community it serves.

“WELT’s success belongs to the patrons who show up, share their voices, and bring their stories to the airwaves,” said John O’Rourke, Access Fort Wayne Manager. “Their programs, creativity, and commitment have made WELT a powerful community resource throughout Fort Wayne and Allen County.”

Over the past decade, WELT has also become a trusted civic and public safety resource. The station broadcasts City of Fort Wayne and Allen County government meetings, increasing access to local decision-making and promoting transparency. In addition, WELT is part of Allen County’s Homeland Security Emergency Response System, providing reliable local communication during emergencies.

City of Fort Wayne Mayor Sharon Tucker proclaimed February 16, 2026 as “10th Anniversary of WELT Radio Day” in Fort Wayne. Her mayoral proclamation stated that “community radio strengthens civic engagement, cultural connection, and local resilience by amplifying neighborhood voices and fostering community identity.”

“We are so grateful to Mayor Tucker for recognizing our work and the library’s commitment to access, transparency, and community voice,” O’Rourke said. “The library is a place where local culture thrives and residents see themselves reflected through books, resources, and even on the air.”

The 10th anniversary celebrates WELT’s impact while looking ahead to its continued role as a vital, community-powered media outlet serving Allen County. For more information about WELT Community Radio, programming, or how to get involved, visit acpl.info/welt.
