The Allen County Public Library (ACPL) and Blessings in a Backpack will host a special Backpack Giveaway on Friday, July 31, to mark the final day of an impactful summer initiative to combat childhood hunger and promote literacy across Allen County.
Beginning at 10 a.m., children and families are invited to stop by the Georgetown, Hessen Cassel, Little Turtle, Pontiac, Shawnee, Tecumseh, and Waynedale branches, as well as, the Main Library to receive free backpacks filled with non-perishable food. Backpacks will be distributed while supplies last, and all items are available at no cost to families with children 18 years of age and younger. Children must be present to receive backpacks.
This giveaway celebrates the success of the summer partnership, now in its third year. In 2026, the effort distributed more than 10,000 food bags across ACPL locations—and supporting thousands of local children throughout the summer.
Media are invited to take photos and conduct interviews at the Georgetown Branch. Library and Blessings in a Backpack leaders will be available to answer questions.
