Girls Who Code begins September 6th

girls who code

Girls Who Code resumes September 6th at Main Library and runs through December 13th.  Girls in grades 6-12 are invited to join this free club that will meet each Wednesday from 6-8pm.   We'll learn the Core 4 elements of computer science and work together on an impact project led by professional coders Rhoda D'Wis and Tapan Mokha.

We'll even spend a little time learning about physical computing with the Adafruit Circuit Playground.  Mari the librarian will show how you can get started building fun projects (including cosplay accessories) with these versatile, Arduino-compatible boards.  Each girl will receive a Circuit Playground to keep, courtesy of a Girls Who Code grant.

Call 421-1255 to reserve a space.

    Hi Jeff,

We are beginning a coed Coder Dojo for older children and teens on June 6th.  It will take place weekly on Wednesdays from 6:30-8:00pm at Main Library.

    Hi Laura,

Girls Who Code finishes in April, but we are starting a Coder Dojo for older kids and teens beginning in June 2018.

Will there be additional meetings for 2018 after the January - April session ends?

    Hi Gladys,

It's better if they can come to the first month steadily but if that's impossible, they can join late.

The time is 6:30-8:00pm and the class meets in the computer classroom at Main Library (1st floor).

    Thanks for inquiring!

Hi. If I saw correctly, the dates for 2018 are January 10-April 25? Also, is it okay if they miss the first two sessions or would they be lost if they miss those first two? What is the start and end time? I saw two different times. Thank you!

    Hi Jenny,

The upper age limit for Girls Who Code is 12th grade or age 18.  Thanks for asking about GWC!

I am really interested in this!  I would probably not be classified as a "girl," however, as I am beyond that age.  Is there an upper limit on the age for this group?
