Get a Library Card

Your library card does more than just provide access to materials from any of our fourteen Allen County Public Library locations. Whether for fun or work, school or family time, your library card can unlock a world of possibilities that fit your unique needs. If you live in Allen County Indiana, you are eligible for a free library card from the Allen County Public Library, which connects you to books, magazines, movies, CDs, audiobooks, mobile hotspots, multiple electronic services, programs and more.

How to get a library card?

You can obtain a library card by registering in person at any of our locations or online.

To obtain a library card in person, stop by any Allen County Public Library location. Library staff will help complete the application and get your card to you the same day. Once you are registered, you are able to checkout materials immediately.

Allen County Indiana residents may also register for a library card from home using our online form. After completion of the online form, library staff will finish processing your request, typically within 24 hours. An email with important account information will be sent to the email address provided. Once you receive this email, you are able to visit any ACPL branch and check out library materials with your approved photo identification – you do not need to wait for your physical card to arrive. Your official physical card will be sent to your provided address within 5-7 business days.

Library Cards for Non-Residents

Individuals who are not Allen County Indiana residents may sign up for an ACPL library card if they fit to the following options:

Resident owns property in Allen County, but live outside of Allen County: Applicants who own property in Allen County, but do not live in the county, must show a property tax receipt to apply for a free Allen County Public Library card. They must do so annually.

Public Library Access Card (PLAC Card): Non-residents of Allen County who present a resident library card from any Indiana public library or have purchased a subscription card from any Indiana public library may purchase a Public Library Access Card to borrow items from our collection. This card is valid for one year. PLAC Cost for 2022: $65.00

  • Most circulating materials may be borrowed.
  • PLAC patrons may not borrow eResources remotely or access downloadable material (Overdrive, Hoopla, Freegal, etc.)
  • ACPL will not provide Interlibrary Loan service for PLAC patrons.
  • PLAC patrons are not eligible for free parking at the main library.

Subscription Card: Indiana residents and non-Indiana residents may purchase a subscription card with proof of identification and residence. This card is valid for one year. Subscription Card Cost for 2022:  $87.00

  • Most circulating materials may be borrowed.
  • Subscription patrons may not borrow eResources remotely or access downloadable material (Overdrive, Hoopla, Freegal, etc.)
  • Free parking is included.
