Hiring Policy

ACPL is committed to recruiting, hiring, promoting, and assigning work to applicants and employees most qualified and available to perform the many tasks necessary to provide quality library services to the Allen County community. All personnel decisions will be administered without regard to race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, sex, disability, marital status, or veteran status.

We seek out qualified applicants through regular contacts with the state employment office; educational institutions; agencies which provide special training for women, minorities, disabled persons, and veterans; and minority group organizations. Depending on the types and needs of the openings, the library recruits through graduate library schools, business colleges, and technical schools. Advertisements may also be placed in local newspapers, journals and magazines, library employment "hotlines," and online services. Notices of all open positions are distributed to all departments and branches to encourage employee application for open positions.

Applicants whose qualifications best match our needs are interviewed by the appropriate supervisor and a Human Resources staff member. Qualifications listed in the official Position Available announcements are bona fide job requirements with education and skill requirements listed being essential to the performance of the identified responsibilities and tasks.
