NEIRRS OFFICE ASSISTANT
Part-time, 20-hour per week office assistant for the Northeast Indiana Radio Reading Service, NEIRRS, working at the DiSalle location [7615 DiSalle Blvd.] If you are interested in applying for this position, you must have knowledge and abilities normally gained through some college and several years of experience working in an office. Strong computer skills and interpersonal skills to work patiently and positively with a wide variety of staff and volunteers. Must have above average skill for reading aloud and pass the reading audition test administered to all NEIRRS staff and volunteers. Must pass intermediate Word and Excel test. Good literacy skills and familiarity with computers. Ability to lift 40 pounds and stamina for continuous standing. GENEALOGY SHELVER
Part-time, 10-hour per week shelver in the Genealogy department at the Main Library. Applicants must be able to work Friday and Saturday 1:00 – 6:00 p.m. with occasional evenings 4:00-9:00p.m. Shelver pays $8.22 per hour. If you are interested in applying for the Genealogy shelver position, you must have completed the tenth grade and be able to shelve and retrieve materials stored in specific numerical or alphabetical order. Strong physical stamina is needed for standing, walking, stooping, and stretching more than 80% of the work time. Responsibilities of the shelver include reading and straightening shelves, photocopying materials, shelving items and other tasks as assigned. LIBRARIAN I – YOUTH SERVICES
Full-time position at the Dupont Branch, 536 Dupont Road Fort Wayne, IN RESPONSIBILITIES: Help develop, plan and carry out storytimes, craft activities, and other programs that support the library’s mission. Use finger plays, puppetry, flannel boards, and a variety of other methods in presenting children’s programming. Assist the teen librarian with programming for teenagers (book groups, craft activities, games, etc.). Assist with juvenile and teen collection development and weeding. Create displays for the children’s and teen areas of the library. Provide library tours to visiting groups and classes. Visit local elementary schools to promote the library’s summer reading program. Assist patrons of all ages in locating materials and information. Instruct patrons of all ages in the use of library computers, the online library catalog, and library eBooks.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree. Knowledge of children’s and young adult literature, computer fundamentals, and library reference skills. A genuine liking and concern for the general public, particularly children and teens. Knowledge of and enthusiasm for juvenile and teen popular culture, including movies, games, crafts, and books. Good analytical abilities for performing research/reference work. Strong interpersonal skills for working with patrons of all ages. Cooperative spirit, reliability, enthusiasm, friendliness, energy, resourcefulness, initiative, tact, good judgment, and a sense of humor are essential. Ability and willingness to work a varied schedule that would include evenings and every other Saturday. Must have completed nine credit hours of specific library science courses or commit to completing them within 3 years of start date in this position. Completion of this course work will allow the person obtaining this position to achieve the required Librarian Certification Level 5 within 3 years of start date in this position. After requirements are met, must earn 50 LEU (Library Education Units) within five years. PREFERRED SKILLS & ABILITIES: Bilingual ability in Spanish or an Asian language is desirable but not required. COMPENSATION: Hourly pay rate of $11.69.
