Youth Services Assistant - Public Services
Part-time, 20/40 hours** per week at the Main Library, 900 Library Plaza 

RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist with data entry for the youth collection development. Perform general clerical duties. Assist in logistical implementation of the Summer Reading Program. Deliver messages and run errands to various library branches. Accurately maintain spreadsheets and paper records. A large portion of time will be spent using a computer, phone, copier, and fax machine. Unpack, sort, and label books and other items. Fill in as needed as a program assistant during the summer.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Associates degree or two years of college coursework completed, plus two years experience with spreadsheets, word processing, and the internet. Experience using databases helpful. A valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work courteously and calmly with a wide variety of people. Cooperative spirit, reliability, enthusiasm, friendliness, energy, resourcefulness, initiative, tact, good judgment, and a sense of humor are essential. Ability to lift and move boxes up to 40 pounds with the assistance of a cart. Hours are flexible, as long as worked in between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. An occasional Saturday shift during the summer might be required.

    40 hours per week May through mid-August 

PREFERRED SKILLS & ABILITIES: Bilingual ability in Spanish or an Asian language is desirable but not required.

SHELVER - WAYNEDALE BRANCH
Part-time, 15 hours per week at the Waynedale Branch, 2200 Lower Huntington Road

RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist in retrieving and returning books and other library materials at patron or staff request. Receive and sort material from other library agencies, preparing it for return to the owning agency. This position is one of the library's basic building blocks of excellent public service.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Completion of tenth grade and an analytical ability sufficient for shelving and retrieving materials stored in specific numerical or alphabetical order. Strong physical stamina as this job requires standing, walking, stooping, and stretching more than 80% of the work time. Good interpersonal skills for work in exchanging factual information with co-workers and patrons. Cooperative spirit, enthusiasm, friendliness, energy, resourcefulness, initiative, tact, good judgment, and a sense of humor are essential. Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule that may include days, evenings, and/or Saturdays.

CIRCULATION SUPERVISOR (Records)
Full-time, 40 hours per week at the Main Library, 900 Library Plaza

RESPONSIBILITIES: Oversee the registration specialists who maintain the patron data base to ensure a quality database and expertise in staffing the Staff Help Line. This includes training, troubleshooting, monitoring, leading team meetings and assisting where needed. Process incomplete items that are not currently checked out by patrons, which involves working with main library staff to locate items and researching past usage of material. Maintain logs and investigate follow-ups to troubleshoot patron situations. Investigate branch missing hold problems. Maintain monthly stats, monthly money count reports and monthly desk intake. Investigate and process two record situations. Answer Ask-a-Librarian questions. Complete yearly performance reviews of staff assigned. Fill in at the Checkout Help Desk. Cover the Patron Help Line and the Staff Help Line when needed. Oversee searches for missing On Route and In Transit material. Train staff system-wide on circulation processes monthly. Oversee and requisition departmental supplies and forms. Participate in developing specific operating procedures. Perform a variety of supervisory and daily circulation functions. Cross-train in all Circulation Department positions in order to assist when needed. Supervise desk and support staff, along with the records staff.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma, customer service background, and library experience required. Problem-solving skills sufficient for specific performance planning and review. Ability to effectively communicate policy and procedure to staff and to gain the confidence of patrons using effective leadership. Cooperative spirit, reliability, enthusiasm, friendliness, energy, resourcefulness, initiative, tact, good judgment, and a sense of humor are essential. Position requires that you are willing to work a flexible schedule, when required. Current Schedule: Mon & Tues 12:30-9:00, Wednesday & Thursday 8:30-4:30, Friday OR Saturday 8:30-6:00, Every fourth Sunday 12:00-5:00, when applicable, with Wednesdays off.


PREFERRED SKILLS & ABILITIES: Previous supervisory experience preferred. Bilingual ability in Spanish or an Asian language is desirable but not required.
