EARLY LEARNING EVENT ASSISTANTS - 2 Temporary positions
Part-time, temporary at the Shawnee Branch

RESPONSIBILITES: This position will support Shawnee Branch staff’s implementation of an Institute for Museum and Library Services grant focused on building community support for and awareness of the role adults play in helping children enter school ready to learn. Accompany staff in working with English-, Spanish-, and Burmese-speaking adults and children in venues throughout the south side of Fort Wayne modeling and demonstrating positive, intentional interactions with young children. Prepare, clean and sort materials for distribution at events. Setup and teardown displays, including canopy.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: MUST BE BILINGUAL, English/Spanish, or English/Burmese/Mon/Karen. Comfortable interacting with people of all backgrounds, abilities and ages. Willingness to talk, sing, read, write, and play with children and adults with enthusiasm and humor. Strong ability to interact in a friendly, supportive manner with the public and fellow staff members. Cooperative spirit, reliability, energy, resourcefulness, initiative, tact, and good judgment are essential. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Ability and willingness to work a variable schedule, including some afternoons, evenings and Saturdays.

PREFERRED SKILLS & ABILITIES: High school diploma and experience working with adults and children preferred.

COMPENSATION: This position pays $12.00 per hour, for a total of 100 hours (each position) from March-September.

MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN
Full-time, 40 hours per week at the Main Library


RESPONSIBILITIES: Work to insure the safety and comfort of library buildings and building systems. Maintain electrical, mechanical, fire detection and fire suppression, HVAC, and plumbing systems. Monitor BAS computer, evaluate alarms, and make necessary adjustments. Work with contractors on repair of mechanical systems, boilers, chiller plants, cooling tower, ice plant, generators, chemical feed water treatment and integrated controls. Troubleshoot variable air volume systems. Maintain PM/work order application, code compliance and logs for OSHA, NFPA, ADA, and ASHRAE. Other tasks as assigned. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma and certificate program or equivalent training and experience. Minimum of two years field experience in specialized trade. Strong computer and analytical skills. Ability to work under pressure in emergencies for 15 locations. Valid driver’s license, good driving record and reliable transportation.
Good interpersonal skills for working with staff, contractors, utility and other service representatives. Physical stamina necessary for lifting more than 50 pounds 20% or more of work time. Cooperative spirit, reliability, enthusiasm, friendliness, energy, resourcefulness, initiative, tact, good judgment, and a sense of humor are essential. Ability and willingness to work Monday-Friday 7:00am-4:00pm. Weekend hours and on-call rotation as needed. Schedule is subject to change.

PREFERRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Building trades certification or journeyman’s license desirable. Bilingual ability in Spanish or an Asian language is desirable but not required.
