part-time, 16 hours per week at the Main Library

RESPONSIBILITIES:  Shelve DVDs, CDs, audiobooks, video games and other library materials.  Read and straighten shelves.  Inspect, check-in, trap and route materials.  Sensitize material for the security system. Additional projects as assigned.  Position is one of the library’s basic building blocks of excellent public service.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Completion of tenth grade and an analytical ability sufficient for shelving and retrieving materials stored in specific numerical or alphabetical order. Strong physical stamina as this job requires standing, walking, stooping, and stretching more than 80% of the work time. Good literacy skills and familiarity with computers. Good interpersonal skills for work in exchanging factual information with co-workers and patrons. Cooperative spirit, reliability, enthusiasm, friendliness, energy, resourcefulness, initiative, tact, good judgment, and a sense of humor are essential. Ability and willingness to work the following schedule: Monday 8:30 a.m.-1:30p.m., Wednesday 8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. and Friday 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

PREFERRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Bilingual ability in Spanish or an Asian language is desirable but not required.

DESK ATTENDANT - CIRCULATION SERVICES

Part-time, 25 hours per week in the Main Library

RESPONSIBILITIES: Customer Service. Staff the Help Desk to assist patrons.  Register applicants for library cards. Collect fees. Troubleshoot situations with damaged/incomplete returns, lost material and claims returned material. Explain the library's circulation policy to the patrons. Assist, teach and encourage patrons as they check-out using the self-check stations. Trap holds, process holds and maintain the main library hold shelves. Pickup and deliver carts and bins full of material. Discharge returned interlibrary loan material. Perform opening and closing desk activities. Assist with patron record updates. Perform other duties as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
: High school diploma. Friendly and out-going public service attitude. Must have physical stamina to push full carts and bins of material, to lift full tubs of books and to stand for long periods of time.  The ability and willingness to acquire a good knowledge of ACPL circulation policy and procedures. Good basic literacy skills. Attention to details. Ability and willingness to work cooperatively and positively with a wide variety of public and fellow staff members. Cooperative spirit, reliability, enthusiasm, friendliness, energy, resourcefulness, initiative, tact, good judgment, and a sense of humor are essential. Ability and willingness to work 12:00-5:00 Mon – Thurs and one weekend shift. The weekend shift rotates between 8:30-1:30 or 1:00-6:00 Saturday and 12:00-5:00 Sunday.

Register patrons for library cards. Help patrons find library materials. Assist patrons with the use of machines and equipment. Refer patrons to appropriate staff for in-depth assistance. In general, work to give friendly, courteous, and effective service.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of Dewey Decimal system and general knowledge of branch operations, normally acquired through completion of tenth grade and three to six months on-the-job library training and experience. Good literacy skills and familiarity with computers. Ability to learn on-line systems for circulating books and for patron use. Excellent interpersonal skills for dealing pleasantly and cooperatively with patrons over the phone and in person up to 80% of the work time. Cooperative spirit, enthusiasm, friendliness, energy, resourcefulness, initiative, tact, good judgment, and a sense of humor are essential. Monday & Tuesday 12:00-9:00, Wednesday 5:00-9:00, Saturday 9:00-6:00.

PREFERRED SKILLS & ABILITIES: Bilingual ability in Spanish or an Asian language is desirable but not required.

Ability to learn on-line systems for circulating books and for patron use. Excellent interpersonal skills for dealing pleasantly and cooperatively with a diverse group of patrons including both children and adults. Genuine liking and understanding of people. Cooperative spirit, reliability, enthusiasm, friendliness, energy, resourcefulness, initiative, tact, good judgment, and a sense of humor are essential. Ability to work a varied schedule of days, evenings, and Saturdays.

ACCESS FORT WAYNE PROGRAM DIRECTOR
Full-time, 40 hours per week

RESPONSIBILITIES:  Create a unique minute-by-minute playback schedule for every day of the week for two Public Access channels. Maintain and build on an existing Microsoft Access database to create those schedules weeks in advance. Communicate schedules in a timely way to producers, media, public, and staff. Respond to scheduling requests in a timely fashion. Input and maintain program schedules on the AFW web pages. Create new daily logs and automation schedules for the Public Access channels. Coordinate, weed and maintain the archive of recorded programs. Assist in the daily operations of the department by working with patrons, producers, and volunteers in the areas of production, editing, training, and staffing the Maker Lab.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  College or trade school education with strong experience in Microsoft Access and file management across several computer platforms to maintain the expanding video file environment. Knowledge of television production is a bonus. Candidates need superior organizational and interpersonal communication skills for working with a wide range of patrons, producers, volunteers and staff. Candidates should also have experience with Macintosh computers. Ability to lift and move up to 40 pounds of equipment such as lights and cameras. Cooperative spirit, reliability, enthusiasm, friendliness, resourcefulness, initiative, tact, good judgment, and a sense of humor are essential. Schedule will include day, evening and weekend hours.

SECURITY OFFICER - MAIN LIBRARY
Full-time, 40 hours per week

RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide general building security for the library. Give directional information to patrons. Assist library users with emergency situations. Check outgoing library materials. Help patrons by giving prompt, friendly, and courteous assistance as they check-out and return materials. Assist the library staff in providing a pleasant and secure atmosphere. Serve as Security Center Operator.  Route incoming calls to proper departments.  Assist public over the telephone.  Respond to emergency phone calls or other emergency requests.

EQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent training and experience which provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities. Valid driver’s license, good driving record and reliable transportation. Good literacy skills and familiarity with computers. Ability to learn on-line systems for circulating books. Knowledge of safety principles and emergency responses or the ability to learn them quickly. Cooperative spirit, reliability, enthusiasm, friendliness, energy, resourcefulness, initiative, tact, good judgment, and a sense of humor are essential. Physical stamina for lifting 20 pounds or more approximately 10% of work time and standing and walking no more than 80% of work time.  Schedule: M-F 2:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. and every other weekend 3:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m with the flexibility of events scheduled and 11 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. on scheduled Sundays.
