SHELVER
Part-time, 10 hours per week at the Main Library - Genealogy Center 

RESPONSIBILITIES: Reshelf library materials. Read and straighten shelves. Preservation photocopy department materials. Perform other duties as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
: Completion of tenth grade and thorough knowledge of the alphabet and sequence of numerical placement in the Dewey classification system. Good literacy skills. Strong physical stamina as this job requires standing, walking, stooping, and stretching more than 80% of the work time.  Ability to work cooperatively with a wide variety of public and fellow staff members. Cooperative spirit, reliability, enthusiasm, friendliness, energy, resourcefulness, initiative, tact, good judgment, and a sense of humor are essential. Ability and willingness to work Sunday afternoon, 12:00-5:00 p.m. and one evening, 4:00-9:00 p.m.

PREFERRED SKILLS & ABILITIES
: Bilingual ability is desirable but not required.

COMPENSATION
: This position pays $8.71 per hour. Two weeks vacation, federal credit union, employee assistance program, flexible spending plan, and free parking.

BRANCH ASSISTANT
Part-time, 20 hours per week at the Dupont Branch

RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist branch manager and other staff with public service work and clerical routines. For example, open and close the circulation desk. Shelve books. Check materials in and out. Register patrons for library cards. Help patrons find library materials. Assist patrons with the use of machines and equipment. Refer patrons to appropriate staff for in-depth assistance. In general, work to give friendly, courteous, and effective service.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
:  Knowledge of Dewey Decimal system and general knowledge of branch operations, normally acquired through completion of tenth grade and three to six months on-the-job library training and experience. Good literacy skills and familiarity with computers. Ability to learn on-line systems for circulating books and for patron use. Good physical stamina is necessary for standing and walking up to 80% of the work time and lifting loads of 10-25 pounds.  Excellent interpersonal skills for dealing pleasantly and cooperatively with patrons over the phone and in person up to 80% of the work time. Cooperative spirit, reliability, enthusiasm, friendliness, energy, resourcefulness, initiative, tact, good judgment, and a sense of humor are essential. The ability and willingness to work days, evenings and some Saturdays.

PREFERRED SKILLS & ABILITIES
: Bilingual ability in Spanish or an Asian language is desirable but not required.

COMPENSATION

SHELVER

Part-time, 12 hours per week at the Dupont Branch

RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist in retrieving and returning books and other library materials at patron or staff request. Receive and sort material from other library agencies, preparing it for return to the owning agency. This position is one of the library's basic building blocks of excellent public service.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
: Completion of tenth grade and an analytical ability sufficient for shelving and retrieving materials stored in specific numerical or alphabetical order. Strong physical stamina as this job requires standing, walking, stooping, and stretching more than 80% of the work time. Good interpersonal skills for work in exchanging factual information with co-workers and patrons. Cooperative spirit, enthusiasm, friendliness, energy, resourcefulness, initiative, tact, good judgment, and a sense of humor are essential. The ability and willingness to work days, evenings and some Saturdays.

PREFERRED SKILLS & ABILITIES
: Bilingual ability in Spanish or an Asian language is desirable but not required.

If you have applied for a position that is not filled before December 31st, your application for that position only will carry over until that position is closed.
