Youth Services Assistant - Public Services
Part-time, 20/40 hours** per week at the Main Library, 900 Library Plaza 

RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist with data entry for the youth collection development. Perform general clerical duties. Assist in logistical implementation of the Summer Reading Program. Deliver messages and run errands to various library branches. Accurately maintain spreadsheets and paper records. A large portion of time will be spent using a computer, phone, copier, and fax machine. Unpack, sort, and label books and other items. Fill in as needed as a program assistant during the summer.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Associates degree or two years of college coursework completed, plus two years experience with spreadsheets, word processing, and the internet. Experience using databases helpful. A valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work courteously and calmly with a wide variety of people. Cooperative spirit, reliability, enthusiasm, friendliness, energy, resourcefulness, initiative, tact, good judgment, and a sense of humor are essential. Ability to lift and move boxes up to 40 pounds with the assistance of a cart. Hours are flexible, as long as worked in between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. An occasional Saturday shift during the summer might be required. 

**20 hours per week mid-August through end of April
    40 hours per week May through mid-August 

PREFERRED SKILLS & ABILITIES: Bilingual ability in Spanish or an Asian language is desirable but not required.

COMPENSATION: This position pays $10.52 per hour. Two weeks vacation. Deferred compensation plan. Federal Credit Union.  Employee assistance program. Voluntary flexible spending plan and other benefits. Free parking.
