Part-time, 10 hours per week at our Aboite Branch, 5630 Coventry Lane

RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist in retrieving and returning books and other library materials at patron or staff request. Receive and sort material from other library agencies, preparing it for return to the owning agency. This position is one of the library's basic building blocks of excellent public service.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Completion of tenth grade. Analytical ability sufficient for shelving and retrieving materials stored in specific numerical or alphabetical order. Good interpersonal skills for work in exchanging factual information with co-workers and patrons. Strong physical stamina as this job requires standing, walking, stooping, and stretching more than 80% of the work time. Cooperative spirit, enthusiasm, friendliness, energy, resourcefulness, initiative, tact, good judgment, and a sense of humor are essential. Schedule: Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday – hours vary.

PREFERRED SKILLS & ABILITIES: Bilingual ability in Spanish or an Asian language is desirable but not required.

SECURITY SUPPORT SERVICES OFFICER - MAIN LIBRARY

Temporary, 40 hour per week position at the Main Library, 900 Library Plaza

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work in a support position for the Security Services department by serving as a fully-trained security officer, mailroom clerk, switchboard operator and courier. Provide a safe and secure environment for patrons and staff. Process and deliver all in-coming and out-going mail and parcels. Receive and relay messages and information within and outside of the library. Pick up and deliver library materials and supplies.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED. Valid driver’s license, good driving record and reliable transportation. Must have own telephone as the person in this position may be called-out to substitute for absent staff on other shifts. Person in this position must be able to be trained and certified in Community First Aid and CPR and as a forklift driver. Physical stamina for lifting 50 pounds or more. Good oral and written communication skills. Good interpersonal skills for communicating factual information with poise and/or for dealing with persons who may be upset or hostile. Ability to recall extension numbers, radio channels, and personnel call numbers with speed and accuracy. Ability to be alert to what is happening on library property 100% of work time. Cooperative spirit, reliability, enthusiasm, friendliness, energy, resourcefulness, initiative, tact, good judgment, and a sense of humor are essential. This is a first shift position and will generally work 7:00 A.M. – 3:00 P.M. Must be available to work first, second or third shift on occasion as needed. Occasional holidays. Other hours may be required in emergencies.

BRANCH ASSISTANT - GRABILL BRANCH
Part-time, 20 hours per week at our Grabill Branch, 13521 State St., Grabill, IN

RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist branch manager and other staff with public service work and clerical routines. For example, open and close the circulation desk. Shelve books. Check materials in and out. Register patrons for library cards. Help patrons find library materials. Assist patrons with the use of machines and equipment. Refer patrons to appropriate staff for in-depth assistance. Help with displays and decor in branch. In general, work to give friendly, courteous, and effective service. Other tasks as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma. Knowledge of computer fundamentals. Good physical stamina is necessary for standing and walking up to 80% of the work time and lifting loads of 10-25 pounds. Good literacy skills and familiarity with computers. Ability to learn on-line systems for circulating books and for patron use. Excellent interpersonal skills for dealing pleasantly and cooperatively with a diverse group of patrons including both children and adults. Genuine liking and understanding of people. Cooperative spirit, reliability, enthusiasm, friendliness, energy, resourcefulness, initiative, tact, good judgment, and a sense of humor are essential. Ability to work a varied schedule of days, evenings, and Saturdays.

CIRCULATION SUPERVISOR
Main Library
Full-time position in the Circulation Department at the Main Library, 900 Library Plaza

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversee the registration specialists who maintain the patron data base to ensure a quality database and expertise in staffing the Staff Help Line. This includes training, troubleshooting, monitoring, leading team meetings and assisting where needed. Process incomplete items that are not currently checked out by patrons, which involves working with main library staff to locate items and researching past usage of material. Maintain logs and investigate follow-ups to troubleshoot patron situations. Investigate branch missing hold problems.  Maintain monthly stats, monthly money count reports and monthly desk intake. Investigate and process two record situations.  Answer Ask-a-Librarian questions.  Complete yearly performance reviews of staff assigned.  Fill in at the Checkout Help Desk.  Cover the Patron Help Line and the Staff Help Line when needed. Oversee searches for missing On Route and In Transit material.  Train staff system-wide on circulation processes monthly. Oversee and requisition departmental supplies and forms. Participate in developing specific operating procedures.  Perform a variety of supervisory and daily circulation functions. Cross-train in all Circulation Department positions in order to assist when needed. Supervise desk and support staff, along with the records staff.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma, customer service background, and library experience required. Problem-solving skills sufficient for specific performance planning and review. Ability to effectively communicate policy and procedure to staff and to gain the confidence of patrons using effective leadership. Cooperative spirit, reliability, enthusiasm, friendliness, energy, resourcefulness, initiative, tact, good judgment, and a sense of humor are essential. Position requires that you are willing to work a flexible schedule, when required. Current Schedule: Mon & Tues 12:30-9:00, Wednesday & Thursday 8:30-4:30, Friday OR Saturday 8:30-6:00, Every fourth Sunday 12:00-5:00, when applicable, with Wednesdays off.

PREFERRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Previous supervisory experience preferred. Bilingual ability in Spanish or an Asian language is desirable but not required.
