Review of Illuminae (The Illuminae Files #1) by Amie Kaufman

by Cindy H | May 23, 2016
Illuminae
You just broke up with your boyfriend when suddenly the world you've always known is under attack. Almost everything and everyone you know has been wiped out. You and the other survivors (including your ex) are split between two ships with the enemy in pursuit; supplies are low and morale is lower. Everyone is being tested to see if they can be useful to the military. The only thing is, you don't know if you can trust the military; you know there is more to the story than you are being told. Can you use your hacker skills to figure out what's going on? Can you and your ex salvage your relationship with all of the insanity surrounding you? Will your fleet be able to make it to the escape point before the better equipped enemy ship overtakes you???

Illuminae is a thrilling sci-fi tale set in the year 2575. It tells the story of the Battle of Kerenza and how the ships Hypatia and Alexander are on the run from the evil corporation BeiTech's Lincoln ship. You get inside peeks into government documents and interviews and transcripts from chats between civilians and military personnel. There are also some cool illustrations that really add some interesting elements to the story. This all makes you feel like you know more than even the main characters about what's really going on. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good fast-paced sci-fi story with twists and turns; it's hard to put it down! This book is part of a series, so if you enjoy it you can pick up the next one, Gemina (The Illuminae Files #2) in October 2016 to see how the story continues.
