Early Literacy Booklists
Research has shown that there are Six Early
Literacy Skills which help prepare children to learn to read. The materials on these lists have been
selected by Children's Services Librarians for being exceptional in helping to develop these skills.
You may check out the Early Literacy Kit that has all of the books, a parent guide and DVD / CD,
or you may check out the books individually. |
Vocabulary
Vocabulary refers to a child's knowledge of words and what they mean.
To develop this skill, look for books that have words not normally used in daily conversation.
Looking at non-fiction books together is also a great way to build a child's vocabulary.
