Early Literacy Booklists
Research has shown that there are Six Early
Literacy Skills which help prepare children to learn to read. The materials on these lists have been
selected by Children's Services Librarians for being exceptional in helping to develop these skills.
You may check out the Early Literacy Kit that has a selection of children's books, a parent guide and DVD / CD,
or you may check out the books individually. |
Narrative Skills
Narrative skills include the ability to tell stories and to describe things and events. To help develop
narrative skills, look for books with
repeated phrases, that tell a cumulative tale, or with a sequence that's easy to follow.
