Book Awards: Caldecott Medal
2013 Mock Caldecott Program
Librarians, teachers, parents, homeschoolers and kids...in fact, everyone interested in children's picture books
is invited to participate in the Allen County Public Library's Mock Caldecott program.
Throughout the year, we'll be posting titles on the ACPL Kid Blog
that meet the criteria for the Caldecott Medal,
awarded every year by the American Library Association to the "most distinguished American picture book for
children". Following our posts is a GREAT way to keep up with the newest and the best picture books!
Everyone is welcome and encouraged to leave comments about the titles we post -- and to suggest new titles for inclusion
in our list. Simply leave a comment on the blog or send an email.
In honor of the 75th Anniversary of the Caldecott Medal, we have several events planned:
- Stop by Children's Services at the Main Library NOW through Sunday, December 2, during library hours, and cast your vote for
your favorite picture book published this year. Your vote is also an entry in our great book give-away.
- On December 1 and December 2, from 2:00-4:00 p.m., drop in and learn about the Caldecott Award, look over our collection of the best picture books
of the year, and vote for your favorites. You might win a picture book in our drawing!
- Adults are invited to our in-person Mock Caldecott Discussion and Election in the Children's Services department at
the Main Library, scheduled for January 12, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. We'll talk about this year's crop of new books and vote for our
favorites. The winning title will be awarded the ACPL Mock Caldecott Award! Registration for this program is now open.
