AIDS

AEGIS
Nonprofit clearinghouse of AIDS information. Offers basic medical information, prevention, research, discussion/chat groups, and links to AIDS resources.
The Body: An AIDS and HIV Information Resource
A wealth of information on HIV and AIDS. Also offers discussion groups and forums in which you can question an expert.
Critical Path Project

Provides daily updates on AIDS treatments, research, clinical trials, etc.
HIV/AIDS Hotlines

Numbers to call when you have questions about HIV/AIDS.
HIV InSite

From the University of California San Francisco. Basic and in-depth medical information, clinical trials, news, statistics, and much more.

ALLERGIES

American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology
Basic allergy information for patients, along with a physician directory.
Pollen.com

Type in a ZIP code and receive a pollen forecast for that area. Sign up for email pollen alerts.

ALZHEIMER'S DESEASE

Alzheimer's Association
Good source of information for people with Alzheimer's and for those who care for them. Also has statistics and information on the latest research. Check out The Northern Indiana Chapter.

Basic information on the disease and caring for those who have it. From the American Health Assistance Foundation.
Alzheimer's Disease: Unraveling the Mystery
This booklet from the National Institute on Aging gives a good overview of Alzheimer's, its history, and its treatment.

ARTHRITIS

About.com guide to arthritis
An extensive collection of arthritis articles from other Web sites.
Arthritis Foundation

Basic information on various types of arthritis. Tips on treatment and management, plus discussion groups and an "ask an expert" feature.

CANCER

American Cancer Society

A good place to begin. Comprehensive source of information for cancer patients and their caregivers. Has a cancer glossary, information on research, and cancer news.
Cancer Mailing Lists

A list of electronic mailing list support groups for cancer patients and caregivers. Cancer.Gov
Another good starting point. Detailed information on various types of cancer, prevention, testing, treatments, and clinical trials. Offers a large collection of Internet links. From the National Cancer Institute.
OncoLink

Another good clearinghouse of cancer information. A notable feature here is the OncoLink RX Chemotherapy Drug Reference. From the University of Pennsylvania Cancer Center.

DISABILITIES

ABLEDATA

Federally funded database of assistive technology products. Descriptions of products include price and company information. Also has consumer reviews of products in the database.
Allen County League for the Blind and Disabled

Information about the organization and its programs and services, plus relevant Internet links.
Disability Resource Monthly

Excellent guide to disability resources on the Internet. Also has a directory of state and local organizations for those with disabilities.
WheelchairNet

Online community on wheelchair use. Tips on living with a wheelchair, updates on wheelchair research, product information, and discussion forums.

HEART DESEASE

American Heart Association

Information on heart health, disease prevention, risk assessment for heart attack, and CPR.
Heart Information Network

Basic information on heart health and disease prevention, as well as a large section on nutrition for a healthy heart, a heart glossary, and a list of reviewed Web sites.
Yale University School of Medicine Heart Book

Written for a general audience, this book covers heart function, as well as heart disease and its prevention and treatment.

MENTAL HEALTH

Mental Health Net

Information on mental illness and its treatment, a glossary of mental health terms, and online support groups.
National Institute of Mental Health

Covers a variety of mental illnesses. Also has information on NIMH research, listings of clinical trials, and statistics on mental disorders.
National Mental Health Association

Basic information on mental illness, information on public education programs, statistics, and mental health news.
