Review by Theresa, patron of our Georgetown Branch

I had always wanted to read Pilgrim at Tinker Creek by Annie Dillard, but the Pulitzer Prize-winning book had intimidated me. One day I searched for audiobooks read by Barbara Rosenblat, my favorite narrator. When I saw Tinker Creek listed, I decided to give it a try although it was unlike the novels and mysteries I usually choose. The book is beautifully written by Dillard, making me see the countryside around her. I felt drawn to the nature and science she so obviously loves.

The narrator, Barbara Rosenblat, is known for her excellent voice characterizations which she gives to a variety of characters. In this book, however, the only voice is the author's. As I listened, I forgot that I was listening to Ms. Rosenblat--I heard Ms. Dillard instead. Since listening to Pilgrim at Tinker Creek years ago, I have read it several times. When I read, I hear Ms. Rosenblat and Ms. Dillard reading the book with me.
